What Is A BER?

A BER stands for building energy rating and it is a report on a building about the Buildings Efficiency. The buildings efficiency would depend on the buildings heating system, Lighting system and also ventilation system and how much Co2 (carbon dioxide) it produces annually.

A BER is displayed on a scale and the scale is from A1 to G. A1 would mean that the building is very efficient and uses little energy and a rating G would mean that it is not efficient and it uses a lot of energy. This could mean little amount of insulation in the house which means more heating will have to be used to heat the house which means more energy is being used.

A BER rating is a legal requirement in Ireland and all of Europe if your selling, renting or building a house.

DEAP Software

DEAP Software stand for Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure. DEAP Software is connected to BER ratings and it is used to calculate the BER ratings of homes by putting in all of the information.

DEAP is used for adding in important information  about a building. For example window types would be added, Lighting and insulation width and what material walls are made of.

DEAP also calculates the buildings CO2 emissions based on the information added into the software about the building.

IT then gives you a BER certificate and advises you on how to get your home to a better BER rating and improve the efficiency of the home.
